Turned over a site to three 6th graders! What could possibly go wrong?
So far this year, my 6th grade tech students have been learning html by completing assignments on one of my Drupal web sites.
I purposefully left out of the installation any text editing tools, so all links, images, tables, headings, fonts, colors, etc. had to be coded.
We’ve had some success so far. I was getting a bit discouraged for awhile, and wanted to trash the whole thing because only a few were actually following directions, but decided to hang in there. I’m glad I did, as the last class session went much better.
Now I’m toying with the idea of creating student publishing teams, building a WordPress site for them, making them all Editors, and going live on the internet. This would be a much more sophisticated project, with much more significant risks and rewards.
Going to let it simmer on the back burner for the time being and see what bubbles up.
